I took these pictures (yes... me! Lots of swearing and learning was happening) in the attic of our new house. It might be my favourite place in the house and it won't even be completed for a long time. Our goal is to have a finished attic in 5 years but we'll see how that goes. We're better with short term goals, like finishing a bag of chips in one sitting, then we are with expensive house plans. Regardless of its unfinished state, it makes me happy to be in our attic, it's such a great space... the former home owner got the attic framed up as a huge bedroom/closet/en suite but the word man cave has been floating around...?

I wanted to take pictures up in the space before we insulate it soon. Something about efficiency and lower heating bills... blah, blah, blah. I'll be a little sad when the exposed beams are covered with spray insulation.

Another good thing about the attic, is that we were left with an ancient rowing machine up there. I don't think it was left out of concern for my ticker; it was just too heavy to move. The former home owners also left us with a government regulated boiler inspection that was 6 months overdue and we didn't know about it, so we came home to our gas turned off BUT lets focus on the good stuff they left us. Which is a rowing machine! It happens to be the only piece of exercise equipment I tolerate. Matt hooked up our old TV in the attic for his #1 sweetie (that's me, not the cat, Kyle) and now I can watch Springer and work off that bag of chips I ate in one sitting. Look at me...accomplishing my goals!

Those boots are the shiz! The whole outfit looks really good, very effortless-looking but still casual chic :)

So um. If you hear someone sneaking into your house tonight and rifling through your closet ... that would be me.
It's my official mission to hunt down and wear this EXACT outfit. It's bey-ond.

You're tougher than I'll ever be. I tried to take my own pictures once... my camera John-Bob ended up having to stay outside for an hour just so he could learn his lesson.

Gorgeous photos. You do way better than me taking your own photos. And I, like others, will be attempting to replicate the outfit in the near future. It's perfect.

Love the fur! Great boots, too. And the double belt is a great touch to top it all off.
Attics are such cool/creepy places. I remember the first house I lived in (only until I was four) had the creepiest attic with all of these old rusty nails sticking out of the walls... Um yeah. Not safe! You had to duck so you wouldn't get a nail in the head. Your attic, however, looks a little safer! Interesting spot for picture taking.

What a great space! And the lighting is divine.
Love the double belts. It's nice to see I'm not alone in rocking them :)

Also, I'm hosting a give away. Check it out.

okay i'm luurrving the new layout (please tell me it's new and i'm not just embarrassingly behind the times). AND the two belts are twice as fabulous (incidentally, a friend around here actually calls me "two belts" all the time because i once wore my two-buckle belt...digressions).

Absolutely beautiful outfit and cool background. I have similar pieces but never thought to mix them together. I may have to be inspired by you at some point.

Niiice. The outfit and the attic! As much as attics scare me (due to reading too many ghost stories as a child, and they were always either in the attic or the basement), I wish Damian and I had an attic. So I could convert it into a walk-in closet. Or a nice hang-out space. I prefer closet though...:)

And I wish I could take such nice pictures of myself! I normally just stand and am all, uh, what do I do?

OMG, I TOTALLY LOVE this look! ::Hi, I'm new by the way, joined a couple of weeks ago - found you from Kendi::

I basically LOVE maxi dresses and those belts...and the vest, this is definitely a look I'd swipe for myself!!!

Peace,
Monique

I love this mix! The shirt looks so good layered over that dress (with the extra fur for insulation - hey!) Also, two belts = better than one.

I love how you layered a collar shirt over your maxi dress, I'll have to try that sometime!

Two belts?! Girl, you crazy and I kinda love it.
PS - Gifted rowing machine = awesome.

Love the idea of combining two thin belts to create a more stunning look. Never would have thought of that on my own, but now it's something I'm trying to figure out how to personally pull off. - Katy

I'm glad you could get some great photos in before you have to insulate the attic! At least you won't freeze when you are up there rowing!! I'm loving your new blog design!

I like it. Tripodding is hard isn't it? I wish it wasn't a necessary evil for a single style blogger. Seems like you guys are settling into your new house wonderfully. I like to have water with me at night time, so make sure there's a coaster on the bedside table.

I'm into the double belt look too. I tried that one when I wore my mom's bomber jacket that you liked so much. Guess what else? I have another one of her jackets coming to a post near you very soon.
Shearling. 1960s. Scotland. The end.

I LOVE that dress so much. I think something like that is going to be the next thing I look for when I go shopping! Your outfit is amazing!

Also, you are so lucky to have a rowing machine. It's actually my favorite piece of exercise equipment!

I officially have a crush on both this attic AND you. These photos are incredible! I love the lighting! And the rustic beams are gorgeous, especially against the sort of preppy/nautical look you've got going on. Great call on the boots, too. They look great w this look.

Really, I'm in love w that attic. Stupid apartments- they don't got no attics! Or at least mine hasn't got one. Hmm...so many plusses to being a homeowner! Attics, old rowing machines, adulthood...
