Dutch Girl

Dress? MaxMara, thrifted! $12! High-five!
Belt? Roots, thrifted
Necklaces? Cuban market
Shoes? Derek Lam, Holt's Last Call
Clutch? Old Navy, thrifted
Sunglasses? F21
I feel like my Mama should like a whole lot about this look... My hair has its natural wave, my dress is sweet and modest enough to be worn to teach a kindergarten class and best of all, I'm even wearing a slip. In my mind I can hear her say 'Ja, dat is zooooo nice!'.
This is becoming one of those moments where I wish all my readers knew me in real life because my Dutch accent imitations are pretty worthwhile (though Matt can hold his own too). And I apologize to my Mama, who doesn't really have that strong of an accent but I always feel the need to exaggerate... After all, accents are like ice cream; much better without moderation.

Ha! "accents are like ice cream" I love it! Now I want to hear your Dutch accent impressions.

In other news, I love this dress!

Awww, too cute. I love this look - and that first picture is kickass awesome. I love your Dutchness! I'm always begging to go to the homeland with my man and see the Schoolmeester windmill -- the family legacy, apparently. It made the paper upon which was printed the American Declaration of Independence. Or something. Anyway, this modest look is nonetheless really beautiful.

Such a pretty dress :) My opa was dutch and he had the thickest accent I have ever heard!

See, when I imitate my grandma's British accent, I just always sound disappointed. Oh, wait. That's because she usually is. Never mind.

That dress is a great score. I'm pretty jealous. The accessories look great with it. I love the first picture which looks like you're actually trying to stick your finger in the wall.

Love the dress! Perfect for Spring!!!

My parents have strong Boston accents, but I can't really imitate them that well.

Gorgeous dress! I love it with the oversized bright green clutch - such a fun contrast and pop of color. Love it!

I'd love to hear your Dutch accent too...I'm still practicing my Mom's strong Chinese one (and she's been living in the US for 40+ years!).

I love your outfit today, especially those shoes. I think I need to find a pair, ASAP stat!

Ha, agreed - my mom is French and I really do enjoy doing an accent that is somewhere in between her real one and Sasha Baron Cohen's in The Tale of Ricky Bobby. Ha :)

Anyway, love this outfit - so simple but awesome. And I really wish I could find those shoes!

I enjoy reading your blog so much, you always put a smile on my face...I completely agree that accents are like ice cream; whenever I'm impersonating my momma, I give her a reaaally strong Southern accent. It's the same thing, she only has a slight accent, but it's much more effective to give her a really thick one when I'm imitating here. You DO look darling! What a lovely chambray dress. :)

I adore this look, its so effortless. And yes teasing your mom about her accent MUST be exaggerated. My mom doesn't even have one but for some reason when I imitate her she's british.

LOL!!! Loved the accent comment ;)

And you look so chic! Loving that dress on you...especially for that price.

i love that clutch! ..and how you are imitating your mom's dutch accent. :) my siblings and i always do that too with our indian mom, except we add in some finger waving since she's only 4'10 (goes without saying we catch a lot of flack for it)!

I totally make fun of my parents' American accent when they speak French. It cracks me up and I do a great imitation too!

Love this look. And I'm totally feeling the wavy hair :)

as a child who grew up in a household filled with accents [my parents were born in west africa] i completely understand OVER exaggerating to make a point - my parents always get upset but it's so funny. i love your sweetly modest kindergarten outfit today. it's totally and completely refreshing! :)
