Nude in the Winter

Skirt? Pink Tartan, Winners
Boots? Nine West
Cardigan? thrifted (so soft and doesn't pill...two points)
Clutch? Hilary Radley, StyleSense
Bracelets? from the crazy lady at the Ex.
This skirt is, hands down, one of my favourites. And yet, this is only the second time I've worn it. It has so many great things going for it. The nude colour, the gorgeous fabric, the amazing sharp knife pleats and... it doesn't attract cat hair. Yet, it's a lot harder to wear than it seems.
My favourite full-skirt trick is the old hike up and belt at natural waist. That doesn't work because of that lovely marsupial pouch thingy going on up front. So, it has to sit on the hips as it does. The little pouch is cute but it's also a pain because it draws attention to the belly area and tucking in too much fabric from a shirt just adds to the bulk. I also didn't want to wear it with something that has too much volume up top because I like to stick to my 'wear one thing snug to balance out one thing loose' rule. Anything too fancy or ornate could easily be too much for this skirt(the skirt speaks for itself and says 'I'm pretty, don't steal my limelight...'). It's easier to wear it in the summer with a tee and sandals but there is something lovely about light colours on a wintry day. Long story short, this skirt is hard to wear.

And, I obviously feel guilty because I just wrote a very rambly thesis with 5 points to defend the fact that I don't wear this skirt enough...

What a great skirt! I have a similar problem with a patterned skirt I have that has similar knife pleats. I usually end up wearing a plain white tee with it, or a button up blouse (ha, the one time I wore it in the past year). I think you did a great job styling it up for the colder weather!

That sweater is beautiful! You were lucky to find that thrifting!

It's utterly gorgeous, and deserves to be a favorite. Ever wear a longer untucked top to disguise the pocket?

Is this the one I made you buy?

We have the same hair today, lets have the same hair tomorrow too k?

That skirt is amazing, I love everything about it! The little clutch is also cool, and I like how you wore dark boots with the lighter neutrals. So pretty!!

Gorgeous skirt! I get what you mean, though...any skirts where I feel I must tuck things into them can be a bit problematic.

Fantastic skirt and I love the detail on your clutch. What a clever loop for making carrying a lot easier.

Gahh- you should wear that skirt lots more! You look gorgeous, Jentine! And how do you take pics outside in Canadian winter weather without a jacket and still look fabulous?! Cath and I can't manage that in Hotlanta winter weather.
p.s. You should totally open up your own boutique. Just make it online too so that us southerners can shop ;)

“Boss, check this out. She’s talking about marsupial. That mean rodent?”

“Chew, take a doggy chill pill. That means the animal has a pouch for youngin’s exactly where most human females don’t need one.”

“Does she have rats in there? Does she? Are there? Huh? Tell me!”

“Chew, relax. The Virginia Opossum (Didelphis virginiana) is the only North American marsupial north of Mexico. Scroll on down ‘n’ she’s got on another get-up with a similar pouch, salmon-colored. ”

“Little fishies in there, Boss? I like fish, too.”

“Husband, cats, a new home. What’s missin’ from this picture, Chewster?”

“Baby rats! The only thing missin’ from any picture.”

“I’m no psychologist, but I think it’s subliminal secret wish.”

“Boss, what’s sibbinal?”

“Never mind, Chewey. We’re in ‘nough trouble.”

It's a beautiful skirt, though I see your point about it being a bit difficult to wear. I have several like that -- ones I can't bear to give away but that I'm not sure how to wear. Anyway, I think you've done a marvelous job here, and I love your wavy hair, too! The beautiful neutrals look so early spring, to me...

I'm surprised to hear that you've only worn this lovely skirt twice because of that 'marsupial pouch thingy' in front. I thought you maybe had a thing for the pouch because I noticed that pink Ungaro skirt in the last post had one, too. :) They are both so pretty and you pull them off well. And another thing: your hair looks great!

This looks great!!

And creepy long comment because school ate my blog-reading time last week:

1) I was way down with your Good/Bad/Ugly post. I really appreciate your honesty, it helps me not feel like some lone crazy person in the blogosphere. I totally feel you on working hard to curb jealousy.

2) I kind of maybe said out loud "That is a fanfreakintastic outfit." regarding your Ungaro skirt ensemble.

Haha, love reading what you have to say, through your style or otherwise :]

That skirt may be hard to wear, but it looks absolutely stunning. I love what you've paired it with. Gorgeous photos, girl!

I have a skirt that's cut similarly to this one, and I have such trouble wearing mine too! Mine is pink with gold brocade pattern on it. It's a little too big too. I love your skirt, and the funky clutch!

I have a VERY similar skirt (but with ice blue in addition to the nude) and I find it impossible to wear. But I won't give it up because it's so beautiful. Might have to try wearing it this way!
